So I've got plenty of space and plenty of options, yet still stuck on the idea of backing up the NAS offsite. I also liked the idea that my NAS was backing up on it's own and it would not interfere with what was going on with the PC (work or backup tasks). trying to backup that whole backup from my NAS to a remote location (cloud at this point). That brings us up to the start of my original post. I also used backup for business to do a bare metal backup of my PC and data drives to my NAS (except the last data drive as it's like 5TB itself). So at this point I'm starting to use a true backup program (testing out ashampoo and macrium) making separate data backups for my various segments of data all backing up to one of the 16TB EXOS in my bay (those also run cool, great little unit, very happy with it). The new externals also run much cooler, better ventilation for sure (the old ones run in the mid 40s, new ones low 30s). So I got the NAS and the Sabrent bay, and added the two 16TB externals to eventually replace the others (free up usb ports too). I was running like this for a while, but I also leave my computer on 24/7 and live in the south, so those externals tend to run a little warm. My two data drives backup up to my first 8TB external, and my third data drive (all critical data) goes to my second 8TB drive.Īnd I've had one failure in the last 10 years and between BB and code42, I pretty much had everything. It was really simple as my system drive backups up to my external 6TB drive (and yes it pulled some stuff from the data drives as well as I put my music, and document folders on them). My system has a system drive, two data drives (just two partitions separated for organization sake), and a third data drive.
